Important & Fun Stuff

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? The vibe is California Cocktail. We insist you look fabulous but how you do it is up to you! Please dress for the occasion but a sequin dress with some Sambas is great. Dress to be on your feet and dancing. WHAT WILL WE BE EATING? This will be a who’s who of the Los Angeles culinary scene and will feature food from a variety of local restaurants. For anyone with dietary restrictions, fear not! -we have you covered. Keep checking back for partner restaurant information. WILL I NEED TO BUY DRINKS? Your ticket includes access to wine, beer, etc. stations for the duration of the tasting portion of the evening. We will also have a limited hosted bar open all night. WILL THERE BE A GIFT BAG? Yes! Please help us out by letting us know if you or anyone you know would like to include an item or coupon/certificate. They will receive a tax receipt and great advertising! We are planning for about 150 Gold giftbags and 350 Silver giftbags. WHO WILL BE ATTENDING? Hopefully, you! The Gala is for our LILA community AND friends of LILA. Anyone can buy tickets and join us, so invite your friends and associates for a fun night out. CAN I TELL MY NON-LILA FRIENDS ABOUT THIS EVENT? Yes! Please do. You do not have to be a LILA family to attend this event. All are welcome! HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE ATTENDING? City Market Social House has a large capacity and we’re hoping to see a full house! WHAT/WHO IS THE ENTERTAINMENT? We are happy to announce that DJ Spider, who got everyone dancing at our 2019 gala, will be back getting our party started on the dance floor. We will also be entertained by French/American indie duo, Freedom Fry. CAN WE BRING OUR KIDS? This is a 21+ event, so book your babysitter and come out for a fun adults-only night out!

Fundraising

WHAT ARE THE FUNDS BEING RAISED FOR? Funds raised at the gala will be used to help grow The Endowment Fund for LILA. Proceeds from ticket sales and auction receipts will be added to the Unrestricted Endowment Fund. However, when purchasing tickets to the event, you will have the option to direct the tax deductible portion of your ticket or group package to a specific fund: the LILA Diversity Tuition Scholarship Endowment. There are 45 years worth of alumni out in the world using LILA on their university applications, résumés, etc. It's important that 45 more years of LILA graduates be able to continue to leverage our school's reputation for excellence to further their careers. LILA's bright future directly impacts our students' even brighter futures. WHAT IS AN ENDOWMENT FUND? The gala’s purpose is to celebrate our school’s 45-year history, while simultaneously planning for the future. Funds raised from the gala will be allocated to LILA’s Endowment Fund. An endowment fund is an investment fund that holds its principal in perpetuity and pays out a portion of its earnings each year to support, for example, campus operations and programs. Endowment investments have dual goals: to grow the principal and to generate income. Of course, as LILA’s Endowment Fund is relatively new, we are still building to a point where funds can be withdrawn. With all proceeds from our galas, we will continue to grow the principal of the LILA Endowment Fund. As LILA's endowment grows with future donations, it will become a significant source of annual income for LILA. We are taking the first steps! LILA has set up two funds for the Endowment Fund for LILA: 1) The Unrestricted Endowment Fund - This is our general endowment fund, and the annual payout will be used for operations, enhancing LILA, and supporting our students. 2) A Diversity Tuition Scholarship Endowment Fund - The annual payout for this fund will be used exclusively to support tuition scholarships for underrepresented students. HOW DO I REGISTER TO BID FOR THE LIVE AND SILENT AUCTIONS? The gala ticket sales and auction will be run on the same platform, so once you purchase your tickets, your information will already be in the auction system, making things run smoothly. No further action on your part is required. If you did not make the purchase for your tickets: The purchaser may have entered your contact information at the time of purchase. You will then be contacted in order to complete your registration in advance of the evening. The purchaser may not have entered your contact information at the time of purchase. LILA will attempt to contact you once confirmation of your attendance is received from the purchaser. You will then be contacted in order to complete your registration in advance of the evening. If all else fails, there will be an option to register at check-in. Registration in advance is highly encouraged. (We wouldn't want you to miss out on any of the fun!) I CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE GALA, BUT I WANT TO BID ON THE SILENT AUCTION. IS THERE A WAY TO DO SO? Of course! Once we have open online bidding, anyone can bid on items. To register and bid, please visit the 'BID ON AUCTION' link above. I CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE GALA BUT I BELIEVE IN GROWING THE ENDOWMENT FOR THE SCHOOL. CAN I DONATE DIRECTLY TO THE ENDOWMENT FUND FOR LILA? To register and bid, please visit the 'MAKE A DONATION' link above. HOW OFTEN WILL LILA BE HOSTING A GALA? The last time LILA hosted a fundraising gala was five years ago. The 2024 gala is being held in conjunction with the School’s 45th anniversary. Going forward, the School plans to host a gala every fifth anniversary. So, the next gala will be during LILA's 50th anniversary year in 2029.

Ticket & Tax Receipt Information

WILL I GET A TAX RECEIPT FOR MY PURCHASE? Yes. In order to be issued a tax receipt, you MUST be the primary purchaser, so your information is entered into the ticketing platform. If you have a friend buy the ticket for you and you reimburse them, we will not be able to give you a receipt. Single tickets: For Gold Tickets of $350, you will receive a tax receipt for $225. For early bird Silver Tickets of $225, you will receive a tax receipt for $100. For regular Silver Tickets, you will receive a tax receipt for $125. Gold Group Packages: Table sponsorships are slightly different and you should consult your accountant. We will provide you with a tax receipt for $3,500, however, if you are purchasing this as a business expense, you may be entitled to a heftier deduction. It’s best to check with your accountant to confirm. WHY CAN'T I GET A TAX RECEIPT FOR THE ENTIRE COST OF MY TICKET/GROU/ SPONSORSHIP? According to federal tax laws, the School can only provide a receipt for the amount of your donation, which is the price of your ticket minus the cost of your meal and drinks (also known as Fair Market Value).

WILL THERE BE PARKING? We will be offering limited (75) valet parking spaces at the cost of $34.00. We also highly encourage attendees to use rideshare services. Drinks will be flowing and we want everyone to get home safely. IS THE VENUE WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE? Yes. We will accommodate everyone.
